A meadow that waited for you
For nine years, a card hung in a village shop window: “The meadow by the woods. House, barn, land. Free to whoever will live here.”
She worked nights in a city tower, tidying up for people she never met. One night, on her break, she came across a photo of that card. By morning she had packed her things, taken a potted ficus the office had thrown out, and set off for the meadow.
The meadow is overgrown. The forest has crept up to the porch. But someone has already dug four beds.
